How to make Windows Vista run smoother on a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ3HP

This article is not for those who need for all the graphical effects of Windows Vista:

  1. Start
  2. Right-click on “Computer”
  3. “Properties”
  4. “Performance > Settings…”
  5. “Advanced System Settings” (Continue)
  6. “Adjust for best performance” and then
  7. “Custom:”

Now you have deselected all of the checkboxes and if you click on “Apply” you will feel like on Windows ME[rda] (merda in italian means shit).

This is not the way I like Vista: a lot of useful features will not be available, so turn on the following:

  • “Show preview and filters in folder” / In italian: “Mostra anteprima e filtri nella cartella”
This will show the big bar with the preview of selected files on the bottom of Explorer.
  • “Show thumbnails instead of icons” / In italian: “Mostra anteprima anziché icone”
    Self explanatory.
  • “Smooth edges of screen fonts” / In italian: “Smussa angoli dei caratteri”
This will activate ClearType or similar and make your fonts look greater.
  • “Use visual styles on windows and buttons” / In italian: “Utilizza stili di visualizzazione”
This will turn on the “Windows Vista Theme” and make you forget the Windows ME[rda]-feel.

Click on “Apply”.

Now you can try selecting the things you like, remainding that more you select, more slow will run you OS.
